OPENING CEREMONY
10 January 2010

We’ve reached the grand finale
The national teams of Egypt and Ghana compete this Sunday, 31 January, at Stadium 11 de Novembro, in Luanda, the final of the 27th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, taking place since 10 January in the Angolan cities of Luanda, Benguela, Lubango and Cabinda.
The Egyptians, the defending champions, played five matches and reached the same number in victories, being the sole betting winners so far. The Pharaohs, holders of a more objective and collective football, scored a total of 15 goals (11 more than the opponent) and suffered only two, which reflects their superiority throughout the Orange Africa Cup of Nations- Angola 2010. Additionally, the Egyptians count on the best scorer of the competition, with four goals, the forward Gedo.
On the other side of the pitch will be the Ghanaians, team that began with a very shy participation in this Cup, and that until the moment record four goals scored and three suffered. Defeated in the opening round by Côte d'Ivoire (1-3), this team recovered in the next one by beating 1-0 Burkina Faso, therefore qualifying for the next stage, given that they only played two matches, result of Togo’s withdrawal of the competition.
In the quarter-finals, the Black Stars of Ghana crossed with the host (Angola) beating them 1-0. In the semi-finals, in a complete copy of the match against the Palancas Negras, the Ghanaians beat Nigeria with the same result (1-0).
With most of their players coming from the local championship, the Egyptians cannot rely on their star Mohamed Aboutrika (injured), of Al Ahly, and the forward Mohammed Zidan is the only one playing in a European championship.
In turn, most of Ghana’s athletes play in Europe, as Asamoah Gyan and André Ayew (playing in the French clubs of Rennes and Marseille) and the goalkeeper Richard Kingson (Wigan Athletic-England). The biggest absences of the Black Stars in this match against Egypt are Suleiman Muntari (Inter Milan) and Michael Essien (Chelsea).
Consequently, this is expected to be a good football show, being that not always the favourites, in this case, Egypt, go along. In fact, Egypt and Ghana are the best teams of the Orange Africa Cup of Nations- Angola 2010.
Let’s wait and see which team wins today’s match, at 17:30, preceding the grand closing ceremony, which will count with an extraordinary cultural and multimedia show, whose end will be marked by a magnificent fireworks show.
